Description:

One of the first plants to bloom in the spring, Cutleaf Toothwort showcases multiple 4-petaled white-to-pale-pink flowers atop its fleshy branches on this attractive herbaceous perennial. Whorls of deeply-cut, pointy-lobed, toothy leaves provide attractive foliage beneath the dense blooms. In a few short years this plant will spread by underground rhizomes and provide ample groundcover in your early spring garden. By summer the entire plant goes dormant. Use as a spring understory with additional later-blooming perennials planted throughout, to fill-in once Cutleaf Toothwort goes dormant. Difficult to grow from seed; best to purchase plants or bare roots from a reputable nursery. Naturally occurs in woodlands, thus its preference for organically-rich, moist soil.

Wildlife Value: Provides early nectar to waking bees and other beneficial flying insects looking for food.
