Gentiana clausa
Bottle Gentian
Sets of strikingly blue flowers are clustered at the tips of single stems surrounded by a whorl of rich green leaves.
Description:
Sets of strikingly blue flowers are clustered at the tips of single stems surrounded by a whorl of rich green leaves. The contrasting blue and green colors are delightful to view! The flower’s petals remain “closed” forming a bottle-like appearance. Only bumblebees are strong enough to open the petals and access the nectar. They bloom in late summer to early fall. The Bottle Gentian’s preference is slightly moist organic soil, and partial to full sun, but can tolerate some shade. Each plant is relatively short and thin in stature; best planted in masses situated towards the front of your garden beds.
